General Traffic Patterns During Construction

View the construction and traffic overview.

PHASE I: December 2009 - 2011
Doyle Drive Traffic Unchanged, Construction Occurring Adjacent to Doyle Drive

From the start of construction through 2011, Doyle Drive will continue to operate as it does now, while portions of the new Presidio Parkway are built adjacent to the existing highway structures.

The traffic models have shown that a minimal, fourteen second delay is expected during this phase, therefore, the commute from Marin into San Francisco will essentially remain as it is now.

During this phase, two Highway 1 ramps will be closed (NB Doyle Drive to SB Park Presidio/Hwy 1 and NB Park Presidio/Hwy 1 to SB Doyle Drive) actually reducing the amount of traffic on Doyle Drive during peak commute hours. See details about the ramp closures.

3-Day Weekend Closure of Doyle Drive - In 2011 there will be a 3-Day Weekend Closure of Doyle Drive to transfer traffic onto a temporary bypass.

PHASE II: 2011 - 2013
Traffic Transferred onto a Temporary Bypass

In 2011, traffic will be shifted onto a bypass next to Doyle Drive with five lanes - wider than those on the existing Doyle Drive - and with opposing traffic flows separated by a median barrier. Although there will be one less lane on the temporary bypass than on the old Doyle Drive,  these wider lanes and the median barrier will increase safety and traffic flow. The temporary bypass will accommodate the same capacity as the current Doyle Drive.

3-Day Weekend Closure - In 2013 there will be a 3-Day Weekend Closure of Doyle Drive to transfer traffic from the temporary bypass onto the final Presidio Parkway.

FINAL ALIGNMENT: 2013
Traffic on the Final Presidio Parkway

In 2013, major construction will be complete and traffic will be on the final Presidio Parkway. Final project activities will include removal of the temporary detour and landscaping.
