Overnight Ramp Closures, NB and SB Hwy 1 at Hwy 101

SAN FRANCISCO - On Saturday, there will be an overnight closure of northbound and southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard at Highway 101 as work continues to replace Doyle Drive. The closure is in effect starting at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16 through 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 17. The northbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard closure will begin at Lake Street.

Optional trips should be avoided during this closure.

Southbound Highway 1 Restored to Two Lanes
The overnight closure is necessary to shift northbound and southbound traffic to the new, two-lane Ruckman Bridge on Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard, north of the MacArthur Tunnel. The exit from southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be permanently restored to two lanes.

Moving traffic onto the new bridge is a major milestone in the first phase of construction. Crews were able to fully replace the Ruckman Bridge while keeping traffic moving along Highway 1 throughout construction.

See the advisory for a map of the closure and detour routes.

Detour Routes
For the northbound closure, detour signage will direct motorists traveling northbound from Highway 1 to Highway 101 via Geary Boulevard/Van Ness Avenue/Lombard Street.

For the southbound closure, detour signage will direct southbound travelers to continue on Highway 101 (Lombard Street and Van Ness Avenue) to Geary Boulevard to Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard.

These detour routes were selected because they are able to carry a high volume of traffic and use relatively flat streets. The signed detour must be accessible to all vehicles, including large trucks, motor homes, etc.; however, most people will choose their alternate route based on what is most convenient for their trip.

See the advisory for a map of the closure and detour routes.
