McDowell Avenue Closure, Jan. 31, 3:30 – 5:30 AM
McDowell Avenue will be closed very early in the morning on Tuesday, January 31, from 3:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. This closure is necessary to move a large crane in the project area.

Lane Closure on SB Hwy101 to SB Hwy 1, January 15 - 16
On Sunday, January 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Monday January 16, there will be a lane closure on southbound Highway 101 near the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza to southbound Highway 1 at the Ruckman Bridge. The exit will be reduced to a single lane. Expect delays.

The lane closure is necessary to pave and stripe the final alignment of the off-ramp to the new Ruckman Bridge.

Lincoln Boulevard & Storey Avenue Opening January 13
The portion of Lincoln Boulevard and Storey Avenue that closed on January 3 will open the evening of Friday, January 13.

These roads have been closed in order to restore the roadway, sidewalks, and pedestrian path.

The eastbound portion of Lincoln Boulevard from the toll plaza to Crissy Field Avenue will have limited access, for use by local traffic only.

Vehicles should follow detour signage.

Lincoln Boulevard & Storey Avenue Closure, Beginning January 3
Beginning Tuesday, January 3 for approximately one week, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed from Storey Avenue to Crissy Field Avenue. During this time, the lower portion of Storey Avenue will be closed at Lincoln Boulevard.

These closures will be in effect 24 hours a day and are necessary to restore the Lincoln Boulevard alignment.

The eastbound portion of Lincoln Boulevard from the toll plaza to Crissy Field Avenue will have limited access, for use by local traffic only.

Vehicles should follow detour signage.

Overnight Closure, SB Hwy 101 to SB Hwy 1, Dec. 28
Beginning very early in the morning on Wednesday, December 28 from 12:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., the ramp from southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed.

This closure is necessary to ensure traffic safety as crews work on the alignment of the off-ramp and install crash cushions.

Lincoln Boulevard Closure, Beginning December 5
Beginning December 5 for approximately three weeks, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed 24 hours a day between Armistead Road and the lower portion of Storey Avenue. The eastbound portion of Lincoln Boulevard from the toll plaza to Crissy Field Avenue will have limited access, for use by local traffic only. This closure is needed to finalize the alignment of the roadway. Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard.

Beginning September 26 and continuing through late December, the bike path adjacent to Lincoln Boulevard (Presidio Promenade) will be closed for retaining wall construction and roadway realignment.

Please be cautious when traveling around construction sites and follow the instructions from traffic controllers and construction signage.

High Viaduct Featured on Science in the City!
The newest segment of the Exploratorium’s Science in the City program features some of the seismic design features of the new southbound high viaduct. It also highlights the structures used to support falsework over the pet cemetery during construction.

As part of the work to improve circulation around the Southeast Visitor Plaza, on November 30 from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., the last northbound exit on Highway 101/Doyle Drive just before the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza will be closed. There will be no access to the Southeast Visitor Plaza area or Lincoln Boulevard from northbound Highway 101 or northbound Highway 1 during this closure. Drivers should use local roads to access Lincoln Boulevard.

The closure previously announced for November 29 is no longer needed.

This closure is necessary to ensure traffic safety as crews work on the alignment of the off-ramp.

This closure is weather dependent and could be rescheduled due to rain. The alternate date for this closure is Saturday, November 19.

TENTATIVE - Overnight Closures of Last S.F. Exit on Hwy 101, Nov 8 - 10
The last northbound San Francisco exit on Highway 101/Doyle Drive is TENTATIVELY scheduled to be closed on November 8 - 10 from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next morning.

These closures are in association with work to improve the circulation and traffic safety around the east Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza area.

An advisory with detour routes will be sent when the dates for these ramp closures have been finalized.

Night Work for Utility Installation, Beginning October 17, 2011
Beginning Monday, October 17, there will be night work for utility installation along Mason Street between Marina Boulevard and Crissy Field Avenue. Work is scheduled to occur between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and is expected to last approximately two weeks. Work will generally progress west to east.

Traffic will be channeled to avoid works areas, and flaggers will be on site. There are no anticipated parking impacts.

Please follow the instructions of traffic controllers and signage.

Lincoln Boulevard Closure, September 26 - October 2
From September 26 – October 2, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed 24 hours a day between Storey Avenue and Armistead Road. The eastbound portion of Lincoln Boulevard from Armistead Road to Crissy Field Avenue will have limited access, for use by local traffic only. This closure is necessary to install a drainage system across the roadway. Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard.

Beginning September 26 and continuing through late November, the bike path adjacent to Lincoln Boulevard (Presidio Promenade) will be closed for retaining wall construction.

Night Work - Sat. Sept 17 8pm to Sun. Sept 18 11am
From Saturday, September 17 at 8pm to Sunday, September 18 at 11am, there will be night work along southbound Doyle Drive/Highway 101 for grading and paving. The work will occur along the highway shoulder, at the approach to the new High Viaduct and on the roadbed for the new hook ramp.

Work will include the use of heavy equipment and back-up beepers. This work must happen at night as it requires lanes closures on southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive and the off-ramp to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard.

Watch our new project video to learn about the project's restoration process for this historic fence. Once the southbound Battery Tunnel is complete, this fence will be restored to its original alignment along the north side of the cemetery.

Doyle Drive Reduced to Two Lanes Overnight, September 1 and September 6 - 9
Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 will be reduced to one lane in both directions in front of the National Cemetery on September 1 and September 6 – 9 from 11:59 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. each night. The lane reductions are necessary for crews to deliver rebar to continue building the southbound Battery Tunnel roof.

McDowell Avenue Closures, August 31 - September 2 and September 7 - 9
From August 31 – September 2 and September 7 -9, McDowell Avenue will be closed to vehicles from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. each night for crews to remove falsework over the roadway.

McDowell Avenue will be closed to bicyclists and pedestrians 24 hours a day during this work. Bicyclists and pedestrians traveling north on McDowell Avenue should use the multi-use trail behind the U.S. Park Police Stables to Lincoln Boulevard.

On Thursday, August 11, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between Storey Avenue and Armistead Road.

The eastbound portion of Lincoln Boulevard from Armistead Road to Crissy Field Avenue will have limited access, for use by local traffic only.

This closure is necessary for traffic safety as crews pour concrete for the new northbound Hwy 1 connector ramp.

ADVISORY: S.F. Marathon Impacts Golden Gate Bridge and 19th Ave, July 31
On Sunday, July 31, traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge will be reduced to two southbound traffic lanes and one northbound traffic lane until 10:00 a.m. to accommodate the San Francisco Marathon. Additionally, northbound Doyle Drive and Park Presidio Boulevard (Northbound from 19th Avenue) will be reduced to one northbound lane near the Bridge.

From Wednesday, July 27 through Monday, August 1, Marshall Street will be closed 24 hours a day for paving work on the temporary bypass.

This closure is necessary to ensure traffic safety as crews move k-rail along the connector ramp.

Overnight Ramp Closures of NB and SB Hwy 1 at Hwy 101, July 16
From Saturday, July 16 at 8:00 p.m. to Sunday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m., the northbound and southbound ramps connecting Highway 101/Doyle Drive to Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed.

This closure is needed to move southbound traffic onto the new, two-lane Ruckman Bridge north of the MacArthur Tunnel. The exit from southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be permanently restored to two lanes.

The northbound Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard overnight ramp closures scheduled for July 13-15 have been cancelled.

The closure of Lincoln Boulevard previously scheduled for the nights of Tuesday, July 12 to Thursday, July 14, has been postponed.

An advisory will be sent when this closure is rescheduled.

Overnight Ramp Closures, Hwy 101/Hwy 1 Interchange, July 13 - 16
There are four planned overnight ramp closures at the Hwy 101/Hwy 1 interchange.

The connection from NB Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard to NB Hwy 101/Doyle Drive is scheduled to be closed on July 13 & 14 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and July 15 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. These closures will begin at Lake Street.

The connection from SB Hwy 101/Doyle Drive to SB Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard is scheduled to be closed on July 16 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m.

An advisory will be sent when the details for these closures are finalized.

Lincoln Boulevard Partial Closure, July 7 and 8
On Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. between Storey Avenue and Armistead Road.

The eastbound portion of Lincoln Boulevard from Armistead Road to Crissy Field Avenue will have limited access, for use by local traffic only.

This closure is necessary to ensure traffic safety as crews remove falsework over the roadway.

This work was orginally schedule for July 6 and 7, but was postponed.

Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard.

Lundeen Street Closure, July 5 - July 19
From Tuesday, July 5 through Tuesday, July 19, Lundeen Street will be closed for drainage relocation work. This work will include saw cutting, soil removal, occasional jack-hammering, and the use of heavy equipment.

Parking spaces will be impacted at the west end of the parking lot behind the warehouses on Mason Street.

Work is scheduled to occur from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, as needed.

Overnight Closures, NB Hwy 1 to NB Hwy 101, Beginning June 27
For three nights beginning Monday, June 27, the ramp from northbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard to northbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive will be closed from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Motorists should avoid northbound Hwy 1 in San Francisco during this time.

The closures are necessary to ensure traffic safety as crews remove falsework over the highway lanes.

Overnight Ramp Closure Beginning June 24 at 8:00 p.m.
Beginning Friday, June 24 at 8:00 p.m. through Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m. the ramp from southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed.

The exit from southbound Hwy 101 to southbound Hwy 1 will be moved to the north and will become a mandatory two lane exit that will temporarily merge to one lane. Vehicles traveling to southbound Hwy 1 will need to merge right earlier than the previous alignment.

Drivers should be aware of the new roadway alignment and lane conditions.

The closure of northbound Hwy 1 to northbound Hwy 101 has been postponed.

Two Overnight Ramp Closures TENTATIVELY Scheduled for June 24 & 25
There are two overnight ramp closures tentatively scheduled for June 24 and 25 at the Hwy 101/Hwy 1 interchange.

An update will be provided on Tuesday, June 21 regarding these ramp closures.

The ramp from southbound Hwy 101 to southbound Hwy 1 is tentatively scheduled to be closed beginning Friday, June 24 at 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. the next morning. The ramp from northbound Hwy 1 to northbound Hwy 101 is tentatively scheduled to be closed beginning Saturday, June 25 at 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. the next morning.

Utility Work on Mason Street, Beginning June 14
Beginning Tuesday, June 14 for approximately one month, there will be utility work along Mason Street from the Marina Boulevard Gate to Marshall Street. This work will involve trenching and installation of utilities. Expect occasional delays and traffic control.

Starting on Wednesday, June 22 for approximately one week, the parking spaces in front of the warehouses on Mason Street will be periodically unavailable. Additionally, there will be traffic control at the access driveways to East Beach. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, as needed.

Update: The parking spaces at the western end of the warehouses on Mason Street will be periodically impacted starting on July 11 for approximately 2 weeks.

Portion of Palace of Fine Arts Parking Lot Opens
A portion of the parking lot behind the Palace of Fine Arts has re-opened as crews continue work to construct the temporary bypass for the project. The remainder of the parking lot will reopen in 2014 when the Presidio Parkway construction is complete.

Additional free parking is available in the vicinity, including on Palace Drive, Yacht Road, and on city streets, as well as near the Yacht Clubs located off Yacht Road. An additional parking lot is targeted to open on Mason Street near Halleck Street in late 2011.

Lincoln Boulevard Partial Closure, May 10
On Tuesday, May 10, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. between Storey Avenue and Crissy Field Avenue. This closure is necessary in order to complete a large concrete pour for the new connector ramp from northbound Hwy 1 to southbound Hwy 101.

Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard. Eastbound bicyclists should use Long Avenue.

Utility Verification Work Beginning Week of April 25
Beginning the week of April 25 and continuing for approximately four weeks, there will be utility verification work around the eastern end of Doyle Drive. This work is in preparation for Phase II of construction of the Presidio Parkway, expected to begin in late 2011.

Utility Verification Overview
To verify the utilities, crews will remove an approximately 10”x10” area of pavement using saw cutters or jack hammers and then use a vacuum truck to extract the soil. Upon completion, all holes will be backfilled and the work site will be restored to its original condition.

Work Hours
Work hours are expected to be Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Traffic and Parking
There will be occasional one-lane traffic control and parking impacts at some sites. Please follow the instructions of traffic controllers and signage. No full road closures are anticipated.

Sat., April 23: 6-10 a.m. Ramp Closure from SB Hwy 101 to SB Hwy 1
On Saturday, April 23, from 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. the ramp from southbound Doyle Drive/ Highway 101 to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed. This closure is necessary to conduct emergency roadway repair work on Highway 1 near the MacArthur Tunnel. Optional vehicle trips should be avoided during this closure.

Geotechnical Investigation Field Work Underway
Between mid-April and mid-May 2011, the project team will conduct field work to test soil and ground conditions around the existing Doyle Drive. This work is in preparation for Phase II of construction of the Presidio Parkway, expected to begin in late 2011.

Work will include geotechnical explorations/drilling as well as cone penetration testing (CPT) where more shallow subsurface condition testing is required. Upon completion, all holes will be backfilled and the work site will be restored to its original condition. A truck mounted drill rig will be used to take underground soil samples at approximately 120 locations along the existing Doyle Drive. The sites will be clearly marked.

There are no full road closures planned, though one-lane traffic control will be implemented and parking will be impacted on occasion at some sites.

Upcoming Wetlands Restoration Work at Dragonfly Creek
As part of the environmental mitigation efforts associated with construction of the Presidio Parkway, the project team, in collaboration with the Presidio Trust, will create, restore and expand the wetlands at Dragonfly Creek in the Presidio. Work on this wetlands restoration project is expected to begin in June.

Trees Down on SB Hwy 1 Due to Storm

Project Update - Temporary Bypass Construction Begins Soon
Construction of a temporary bypass road for the Presidio Parkway project will begin in early 2011. The bypass is expected to be complete in late 2011 along with the southbound High Viaduct and Battery Tunnel. A project milestone of seismic safety will be achieved once traffic is transferred onto these completed structures.

Highlights of the Temporary Bypass:

• Will carry traffic from late 2011 through 2014
• Allows traffic to continue flowing while the final roadway is built and the existing Doyle Drive is demolished
• Shortens the duration of construction by 1.5 years
• Provides seamless traffic connections to Marina Boulevard and Richardson Avenue/Lombard Street during construction of the final roadway these completed structures.

Lane Closure TONIGHT on Northbound Hwy 1 After MacArthur Tunnel
One lane on northbound Hwy 1 will be closed tonight, February 15, from 7:00pm until midnight. The closure will begin after the MacArthur Tunnel.

This closure is necessary for roadway repairs. Expect delays.

Ramp to Southbound Hwy 1 – One Lane Through mid-July 2011
The ramp from southbound Hwy 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard has been reduced to one lane until mid-July in order to complete the new Ruckman Bridge. Crews are working six days a week to expedite the work and return this portion of Hwy 1 to two lanes.

The current roadway returns to two lanes before entering the MacArthur Tunnel.

US DOT Deputy Director and SF Mayor Visit Project Site
The project team was excited to host U.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary John Porcari and San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, along with other local and national city and transportation leaders, at the construction site on Friday, February 4. Guests viewed the project model and received an update on construction progress from José Luis Moscovich, Executive Director of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.

Those also in attendance included Federal Highway Administration California Division Chief Operating Officer Vincent Mammano, San Francisco District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell, Executive Director of the Port of San Francisco Monique Moyer , and John Hummer, Director of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Northern California/Hawaii Gateway Office in San Francisco and member of the California Public Infrastructure Advisory Committee.

Crews Finish First Concrete Pour for New Southbound Bridge
On Wednesday, January 19 the first approximately 1500 cubic yards of concrete were poured for the western section of the Presidio Viaduct! This concrete will cure (solidify and harden) over nearly two million pounds (1000 tons) of steel to form the superstructure (stem and soffit) of the bridge to support the bridge deck (driving surface).  The concrete for the eastern superstructure is expected to be poured on January 25. Crews will then be ready to place formwork and steel for the bridge deck.

Additionally, crews are nearly finished installing 256 steel fins on the new bridge, each fin weighing nearly 3,000 pounds. These fins are a structural feature as well as an important design aesthetic and will eventually be painted International Orange to reflect the nearby Golden Gate Bridge.

Intermittent Delays on Lincoln Blvd, January 19 and 20
On Wednesday, January 19, starting at 2am, and Thursday, January 20, starting at 7am, there will be intermittent traffic delays of approximately five minutes on Lincoln Boulevard between Crissy Field Avenue and Storey Avenue. The delays will occur throughout the day.

The intermittent road closures are necessary for crews to complete a large concrete pour for the western section of the new southbound bridge, as well as complete falsework (temporary support structures) over Lincoln Boulevard.

There will be extensive truck traffic and equipment staging associated with the concrete pour on January 19.

We appreciate your patience during this activity.

Please use caution in construction zones and follow directions from construction crews and signage.

Temporary Lot Closure Behind Palace of Fine Arts, January 18
Beginning January 18, 2011, the parking lot behind the Palace of Fine Arts will be closed to allow for construction of a temporary bypass road.

The bypass is a key construction element that allows traffic to be shifted off of Doyle Drive and expedites the full replacement of the roadway. This temporary bypass will be constructed below Doyle Drive in the Presidio and will cross through the Palace of Fine Arts parking lot where it will divide to reconnect with Marina Boulevard and Richardson Avenue/Lombard Street.

The inclusion of the temporary bypass in construction phasing reduces the overall duration of construction by 1.5 years.

Two Overnight Closures of Hwy 1 at Hwy 101, January 7 and 8
1. Beginning Friday, January 7 at 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the next morning, the ramp from northbound Hwy 1 to northbound Hwy 101 will be closed. This closure will begin at Lake Street.

2. Beginning Saturday, January 8 at 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the next morning, the ramp from southbound Hwy 101 to southbound Hwy 1 will be closed.

Optional trips should be avoided during these closures.

Drivers should be aware of the new roadway alignment and southbound merge.

Overnight Closures at Hwy 1/Hwy 101 Interchange, January 7-8
Two overnight closures are scheduled at the Hwy 1/Hwy 101 interchange on January 7 and 8, from 10 pm to 10 am each night.

Northbound Hwy 1 to northbound Hwy 101 will be closed Friday, January 7 from 10 pm to 10 am the next morning. The closure will start at Lake Street.

Southbound Hwy 101 to southbound Hwy 1 will be closed Saturday, January 8 from 10 pm to 10 am the next morning.

An advisory will be distributed soon with maps and detour routes.

Tree Removal Along SB Hwy 101 Beginning December 27
Beginning Monday, December 27, there will be tree removal activities adjacent to southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive, north of the Log Cabin across Lincoln Boulevard to Merchant Road. This activity is expected to last approximately six weeks.

Removal of these trees is necessary for future installation of an underground electrical line which will support the new bridge and tunnel systems.

Overnight Closures at Hwy 1/Hwy 101 Interchange POSTPONED
The two overnight ramp closures at the Hwy 1/Hwy 101 interchange tentatively scheduled to take place on December 17 and 18 have been postponed.

The new targeted dates for these closures are January 7 and 8, 2011.

An advisory will be sent once the dates for these ramp closures are finalized.

Tree Removal at the Palace of Fine Arts Parking Lot, October 7 - Mid November
Beginning Thursday, October 7 through mid-November 2010, there will be tree removal within the triangle parking lot behind the Palace of Fine Arts.

The parking lot will remain open during the tree work. The contractor will remove the trees in phases and occupy approximately 20 parking spaces at a time.

Work hours are expected to be 6:00 a.m. to noon.

This tree removal is necessary to create space for the future temporary bypass, which will carry traffic beginning in late 2011 while the remaining portions of the Presidio Parkway are built.

Please be advised that this parking area will be closed beginning January 15, 2011.

Early Morning Truck Trips - September 22-25, 27-28
From Wednesday, September 22 through Tuesday, September 28 (excluding Sunday, September 26) two trucks per night will haul 105-foot-long beams into the Presidio between 3 am and 5 am. The trucks will be escorted by pilot cars.

These beams will be used to build the base for the temporary support structure that will span the pet cemetery in order to build the new southbound high viaduct. There will be early morning work in the Cavalry Stables area to off-load the beams.

The pet cemetery will be closed to the public from September 22 through late 2011.

Presidio Parkway Phase I Construction: Late 2009 – Late 2011
Since construction began in December 2009, Caltrans has made quick progress on Phase I of the Presidio Parkway, the Doyle Drive replacement. Phase I consists of construction of the replacement Ruckman Bridge north of the MacArthur Tunnel, a new southbound bridge east of the Highway 1/101 interchange, the first of four tunnels, and a temporary bypass.

Pet Cemetery Closed and Protected Beginning September 22
The Presidio Parkway project is taking special care to protect the beloved pet cemetery established by military families stationed in the Presidio in the 1950s.

The pet cemetery is situated directly below the new, southbound bridge currently under construction. In order to protect graves inside, falsework (temporary structure used to build the new bridge) will span the entire length of the pet cemetery. To support the long span, 105-foot-long beams will be placed across the cemetery and will be covered to prevent any debris from entering.

During this construction period the pet cemetery will be closed to the public. The closure will be in effect from September 22, 2010 through late 2011.

Tree Removal for Tunnel Construction Begins August 24
In order to prepare for construction of the northbound Battery Tunnel, crews will remove trees along northbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 across from the National Cemetery beginning on Tuesday, August 24. This work is expected to last through the end of September.

One hundred percent of the tree material removed will be recycled or salvaged.

The area of tree removal is substantially smaller than the initial removal that occurred last summer.

Lincoln Boulevard Partial Closure, August 23-25
From Monday, August 23 through Wednesday, August 25, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed each day from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. between Storey Avenue and Crissy Field Avenue.

This closure is necessary in order to install falsework (temporary supports) for the new southbound high viaduct bridge.

Storey Avenue will remain open during this closure.

Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use Long Avenue.

Demolition of Former Public Storage Buildings Begins Week of August 16
Demolition of Buildings 605 and 606 (formerly Public Storage) in the Presidio will begin the week of August 16. These buildings are located along Old Mason Street, near Sports Basement, and must be demolished in order to make room for the temporary bypass which will carry traffic while the final Presidio Parkway is built.

Please note, due to this work, pedestrians are being rerouted to the north side of Old Mason Street.

Ramp Reopened 3 Hours Early!
Crews were able to finish work on the new Hwy 101/1 interchange alignment and reopen the closed southbound Hwy 101 ramp three hours early on Sunday morning!

Drivers should be aware of the new alignment and use caution in construction zones.

Overnight Ramp Closure Beginning August 14 at 10 PM
Beginning Saturday, August 14 at 10:00 p.m. through Sunday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. the ramp from southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed.

Motorists should be aware of the new roadway alignment and use caution in construction zones.

Please expect traffic delays on Sunday morning. Optional trips should be avoided during this closure.

Roadway and Parking Impacts Due to San Francisco Marathon, July 25
The San Francisco Marathon returns to the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday, July 25, 2010. The marathon runners will begin crossing the Bridge around 6:00 am, with the last runner coming off the Bridge by approximately 9:00 am.

Lincoln Boulevard Partial Closure Extended Through Thursday Until 10 pm
The short-term Lincoln Boulevard closure between Storey Avenue and Crissy Field Avenue has been extended through Thursday, July 22 until 10 p.m. This closure is necessary in order to demolish the connector ramp from northbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard to southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive.

The connector ramp passes directly over Lincoln Boulevard and the full road closure is necessary for safety and to expedite the demolition work.

Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use Long Avenue.

Work hours for the demolition activity are 7:00 a.m. –  10:00 p.m. The road closure will be in effect 24 hours per day and Lincoln is expected to reopen no later than Wednesday, July 21 at 10:00 p.m.

Please be cautious when traveling around construction sites and follow the instructions from traffic controllers and construction signage.

Doyle Drive/Hwy 1 will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting at 10 p.m. this Saturday, July 17 through 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 18 near the Hwy 1/Hwy 101 interchange.

During the temporary lane reduction, crews will shift the roadway alignment to the north in order to make room for Highway 1/Highway 101 interchange improvements as part of the Doyle Drive replacement.

Motorists should be aware of the new roadway configuration and use caution in construction zones. Optional trips should be avoided during this lane reduction.

Weeknight Lane Reductions, 11:30 p.m. - 4:30 a.m., July 12-16

Between 11:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. from Monday, July 12 through Friday, July 16, Doyle Drive/Highway 101 will be reduced to one lane in each direction near the Hwy 1/Hwy 101 interchange in order to prepare for an upcoming traffic shift.

NB Hwy 1 Ramp Closure: Friday, July 9 at 11:59 p.m. - 5 a.m., Saturday, July 10
Beginning Friday, July 9 at 11:59 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, the ramp from northbound Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard to northbound Hwy 101/Doyle Drive will be closed.

Motorists should avoid northbound Hwy 1 in San Francisco during this time.

These overnight closures are necessary to place the temporary support structures (falsework) over northbound Hwy 1 in order to construct the new southbound high viaduct bridge.

Fourth of July Traffic Impacts in the Presidio, Doyle Drive, and Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area expects heavy use of beaches, trails, and historic sites this Fourth of July weekend. The National Park Service has several tips to help plan for traffic and parking impacts during the holiday.

The Presidio Parkway has a booth at the Marin County Fair from July 1-5. Stop by to ask questions and see the 8-foot model of the future Presidio Parkway!

The booth is located inside the main gate behind the auditorium, next to the Golden Gate Transit booth.

NB Hwy 1 Ramp Opens Four Hours Early!
The NB Highway 1 ramp opened four hours early on June 19. Northbound traffic has been shifted onto the former southbound lanes to allow for demolition of the old bridge and construction of the new seismically safe bridge.

Motorists should be aware of the new roadway configuration and use caution in construction zones.

The project team was determined to complete this shift ahead of schedule in order to minimize impacts to the traveling public. These short closures are essential to keep mainline traffic flowing during this major construction project. Staging for this project was carefully planned with the goal of finishing as quickly as possible while keeping traffic moving.

NB Hwy 1 Closure Starting 10pm, Friday, June 18
There will be an overnight ramp closure of Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard to Hwy 101/Doyle Drive starting Friday, June 18 at 10 p.m. through Saturday, June 19 at 11 a.m.

This overnight closure is necessary to shift northbound traffic to the former southbound lanes of the Ruckman Bridge to allow work to begin on the permanent replacement bridge.

Lincoln Boulevard Closed Beginning June 2
Lincoln Boulevard will be closed between McDowell Avenue and Montgomery Street beginning Wednesday, June 2, 2010 for approximately 18 months to allow for the construction of the southbound Battery Tunnel, a key design element of the Presidio Parkway.

Upon completion of the southbound Battery Tunnel, Lincoln Boulevard will be replaced over the top of the tunnel and re-opened to traffic.

Presidio Parkway Bike Ride and Party, May 15!
The Presidio Parkway project team will be hosting a public bike ride event on Saturday, May 15, from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. The ride will begin at Sports Basement (Presidio location).

Grab your bike and join the project team to ride the construction area, learn about the best bike routes during construction and get a sneak peak at the future trail network!

There will also be an after-ride party, hosted by Sports Basement. Food and drinks will be provided and ride participants will receive 20% off all Sports Basement purchases the day of the event. Pizza provided by Pizzeria Avellino.

Long-Term Lincoln Boulevard Closure, Late May 2010
Lincoln Boulevard will be closed late May 2010 between McDowell Avenue and Montgomery Street for approximately 18 months to allow for the construction of the southbound Battery Tunnel, a key design element of the Presidio Parkway. A specific date for this closure to be announced.

Upon completion of the southbound Battery Tunnel, Lincoln Boulevard will be replaced over the top of the tunnel and re-opened to traffic.

McDowell Ave Closure POSTPONED Until 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 30
The McDowell Avenue closure scheduled for Thursday, April 29 will now occur starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30. This activity is expected to last 12 -16 hours. There will be significant truck traffic associated with this work.

McDowell Avenue will reopen upon completion of this operation.

The PresidiGo Around The Park Shuttle stops 6, 7 and 8 will not be available during this activity.

Girard Road Closed for Palm Tree Relocation, March 10-12, 2010
On Wednesday, March 10 through Friday, March 12, 2010, Girard Road will be closed in order to relocate two palm trees from the Sports Basement parking lot to Girard Road. The palm trees are in the path of the future construction and are being moved to a new location at Girard Road and Lincoln Boulevard.

Vehicles should use Halleck Street and Gorgas Avenue during this closure.

Lincoln Boulevard Closed, Weekdays, Feb. 22 - Mar. 2, 2010
On weekdays (Monday – Friday), from February 22 through March 2, 2010, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed between Crissy Field Avenue and McDowell Avenue.

Work hours for the realignment activity will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the closure will be in effect 24 hours per weekday. The road will be open on Saturday and Sunday.

This full closure and the extended work hours will expedite the realignment of Lincoln Boulevard and avoid long-term traffic impacts including more than one month of one-way traffic control and associated traffic delays.

Second Ramp Closure Begins February 17, 2010
Northbound Park Presidio/Hwy 1 (19th Avenue) to Southbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 Ramp Closure

Beginning Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 8:00 p.m., the off-ramp from northbound Park Presidio/Hwy 1 (from 19th Avenue) to southbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 will be closed through 2011.

The off-ramp from northbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 to southbound Park Presidio/Highway 1 (to 19th Avenue) successfully closed on January 10, 2010 and will be closed through 2013.

The closure of these ramps does not affect traffic coming from or going to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Overnight Closure of Southbound Doyle Drive to Southbound Highway 1 January 22 to 23

• On Friday, January 22 at 11:00 p.m. to Saturday, January 23 at 10:00 a.m. the southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard ramp will be closed.

Optional vehicle trips should be avoided during these closures. Closure times were selected due to the expected low volume of traffic. Dates are
subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.

• On Tuesday, January 19, 2010 the southbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 to Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard ramp will be closed from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.

OVERNIGHT CLOSURE: January 10 from 11 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Southbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 to Southbound Park Presidio/ Hwy 1

On January 10 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., the off-ramp from southbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 to southbound Park Presidio/Hwy 1 will be closed. The ramp closure will allow work crews to re-stripe the off-ramp to add an additional exit lane (increasing from one to two lanes). This night time closure is dependent on dry weather (alternate dates are January 11 or 12, if needed).

From January 10, 2010 to 2013, the off-ramp from northbound Doyle Drive/Hwy 101 to southbound Park Presidio/Hwy 1 (to 19th Avenue) will be closed in order to construct the Doyle Drive replacement, the Presidio Parkway. This long-term ramp closure does not affect traffic coming from or going to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Lincoln Boulevard Closed between Storey and McDowell Avenues, December 28 through 31, 2009
Starting Monday, December 28 through Thursday, December 31, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed between Storey Avenue and McDowell Avenue in order to conduct tree removal activities. A detour will be provided via Cowles Avenue, McDowell Avenue and Crissy Field Avenue during this closure.

Also, from January 4 through March 2010, there will be roadwork and utility relocation activity to realign Lincoln Boulevard between Crissy Avenue and Storey Avenue. Lincoln Boulevard must be realigned in order to construct the new off-ramp from northbound Highway 1/Park Presidio to southbound Doyle Drive/Highway 101.

There will be intermittent one way traffic control between Crissy Avenue and Storey Avenue during this activity. People traveling through this area should expect occasional delays.

The multi-use trail between Lincoln Boulevard and McDowell Avenue will be closed during this activity.

RAMP CLOSURE FROM NORTHBOUND DOYLE DRIVE TO SOUTHBOUND PARK PRESIDIO/HIGHWAY 1 - Effective January 10, 2010 through 2013
Beginning January 10, 2010, the off-ramp from northbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed in order for construction of the new roadway to begin. The ramp will remain closed until 2013.

This ramp closure does not affect regional traffic coming from or going to the Golden Gate Bridge. Traffic between Marin County, San Francisco and San Mateo County will continue to move unimpeded.

During the ramp closure, motorists can use many other routes and traffic will be dispersed throughout the city street network. View detour and closure details and map.

The off-ramp from northbound Park Presidio/Highway 1 (from 19th Avenue) to southbound Doyle Drive is expected to close in early 2010 and will be closed until 2011.

Northbound Highway 1 to the Golden Gate Bridge and southbound Highway 1 in San Francisco will remain open throughout the project. Those traveling from the North Bay to the San Francisco International Airport should use Highway 101.

McDowell Avenue Utility Work Extended to January 4, 2010
McDowell Avenue Closed December 16-18

Utility relocation activity on McDowell Avenue has been extended and is expected to occur through January 4.

From December 16 through 18, McDowell Avenue will be closed and vehicles will be detoured to Halleck Street to access Mason Street. Crissy Field businesses will remain open.
 
During the road closure, the PresidioGo Around The Park route stops 6, 7 and 8 will not be available.

Access to the U.S. Park Police Stables and the ParkArchives building will be provided via Lincoln Boulevard to McDowell Avenue.

One way traffic control is expected until January 4 for utility installation, trench backfilling, and repaving.

McDowell Avenue Closed November 30 to December 11, 2009
Monday, November 30 through Friday, December 11, McDowell Avenue will be closed for utility relocation activities.

This activity will impact Muni service and the PresidiGo Around The Park Shuttle service. Specifically, Muni Route 29 will not be available on:

• McDowell Avenue
• Eastbound Mason Street between Crissy Field Avenue and Halleck Street
• Southbound Halleck Street
• Westbound Lincoln Boulevard between McDowell and Crissy Field Avenue

The PresidioGo Around The Park route stops 6, 7 and 8 will not be available.

Access to the U.S. Park Police Stables and the Park Archives building will be provided via Lincoln Boulevard to McDowell Avenue.

Re-envisioning Doyle Drive: Commencement Celebration for Doyle Drive Replacement Project
On Saturday, October 17th, the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake – federal, state and local officials and the project team gathered  outside the Crissy Field Center to celebrate the commencement of the Doyle Drive Replacement Project, the Presidio Parkway.

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker, United States House of Representatives, spoke about the benefits the project will bring to the region made possible by $50 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funding. Receipt of stimulus money has allowed Presidio Parkway construction to be accelerated, bringing jobs to the Bay Area and providing the traveling public with a safer roadway - sooner

Doyle Drive is being re-envisioned as the Presidio Parkway – a spectacular regional gateway between the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the city of San Francisco. Construction will begin in November 2009.

FINAL WEEKEND CLOSURE OF RAMPS TO SOUTHBOUND HWY 1/PARK PRESIDIO, September 26-27 from 5:30-11:30 a.m.
The off-ramps from Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed this Saturday and Sunday from 5:30-11:30 a.m.

This is the fourth and final weekend morning ramp closure necessary to safely conduct tree removal adjacent to the ramps in preparation for construction of the Doyle Drive replacement.

Northbound Highway 1 to the Golden Gate Bridge and southbound Highway 1 in San Francisco will remain open. Those traveling from the North Bay to the San Francisco International Airport should use Highway 101.

Weekend morning closures of southbound Highway 1 ramps will:
•    Ensure tree work can be conducted safely and when traffic volumes are low
•    Avoid impacts to weekday commute traffic

Successful Weekend Ramp Closures
The first round of weekend morning ramp closures from Doyle Drive/Highway 101 to southbound Highway 1 this past Saturday and Sunday were a success! The closures allowed the contractor to place a crane on the roadway to remove the trees hanging over the ramps.

The southbound Highway 1 ramps will also be closed September 12-13, 19-20 & 26-27.

Weekend A.M. Closures of Ramps to Southbound Highway 1
The off-ramps from Highway 101 to southbound Highway 1 will be closed from 5:30am to 11:30am during four weekends in fall 2009 (see dates below) in order to conduct tree removal in preparation for the Doyle Drive Replacement Project. These ramp closures are required to safely remove trees encroaching on the roadway. Northbound Highway 1 will remain open.

Closure Dates: August 22-23, September 12-13, September 19-20, and September 26-27.

Weekend morning closures of southbound Highway 1 ramps will:

•  Ensure tree work can be conducted safely and when traffic volumes are low.
•  Avoid impacts to weekday commute traffic.

Utility Relocations - Late August 2009
Utilities in the project corridor, including potable water, sanitary sewer, telecommunications and electrical will be relocated beginning in late August.

Tree Removal
To construct the new roadway and create space for construction activities, the area surrounding the construction site must be carefully cleared prior to construction. Tree removal began on Tuesday, August 11 and will continue through through October 2009.
