Doyle Drive Weekend Closure FAQS Because sometimes the fastest way to open is to close!
|
When will the specific closure dates be announced?
The specific weekend for the closure will be announced as construction progresses and is based on reaching critical construction milestones.
What are the limits of the closure?
Doyle Drive/Highway 101 will be closed from the Highway 1/101 interchange to Marina Boulevard/Richardson Avenue. The connection between the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway 1 will remain open.
What construction activities will occur during the closure?
Crews will demolish conflicting sections of the existing Doyle Drive and connect the new temporary bypass to the completed bridge and tunnel at the west end and to Marina Boulevard and Richardson Avenue at the east end.
Why is the traffic shift necessary?
Moving traffic to keep traffic moving! This shift allows traffic along the Highway 101 corridor to keep moving while the roadway replacement is completed. Construction of the Presidio Parkway has been carefully planned to minimize impacts to the traveling public as much as possible.
What will the driving condition be like after the closure?
After the weekend closure and shift, traffic will flow adjacent to the existing Doyle Drive on the completed Phase I structures (southbound bridge and tunnel) and the temporary bypass through the end of the project. Opposing traffic will be separated by a moveable median barrier. Please expect delays as drivers adjust to the new condition. Drive southbound on the temporary condition.
How will the moveable median barrier work?
The moveable median barrier system utilizes high density concrete sections that are tightly pinned together to form a median. The machine that moves the barrier, known as a zipper truck, will move the entire median to the left or right to adjust the number of lanes traveling in each direction to accommodate peak traffic conditions.
The median barrier system allows the single direction structures of the final roadway (the new bridge and tunnel) to serve bi-directional traffic while the rest of the Presidio Parkway is built. This system also improves traffic safety and prevents head-on collisions.
